Thinking of a New Zealand vacation? We'd love to help you plan the trip of your dreams.
Our team live and breathe New Zealand travel – we are constantly experiencing new attractions, activities, and accommodation first-hand. This gives us an amazing knowledge base with which we can plan your holiday – all you need to do is tell us your wants and dreams and we’ll take care of the rest.
Want to focus on hiking, fishing, motorcycling, adrenalin… or need advice on travelling NZ with children (we’ve been there)? We will custom-make your trip for your needs. We care a great deal for our customers and we aim to surpass your expectations on all levels!
We’ve spent a few years building relationships with small, local accommodation and activity providers who we reckon are particularly special. Our customers benefit from this relationship with a warm welcome and the reassurance that everything you do has been tried and tested (just read our travel articles!).
Break down on the highway? Bad weather change your plans? Leave your sweater at the hotel? Don’t stress – we are always on hand to re-arrange your itinerary, even if it is at 2am (perhaps save the non-urgent questions for the morning!).
Booking through OUAT was very straightforward. You accommodated our requests and made sensible suggestions to our busy itinerary to make sure that we got the most out of our holiday. Everything went smoothly and we were really impressed with the quality of the accommodation, bearing in mind we had asked for B&B level for the majority of the nights. NZ is an amazing country and we loved our trip. Hopefully we will get chance to go back one day.

Thanks for your arrangements for our trip to New Zealand, Carolyn. What a fabulous place and great people! The b&bs were terrific, particularly Carol and Craig in Lake Tekapo. The Hippo Lodge was delightful. Kayaking the Marine Reserve at Abel Tasman was a real highlight. In Kaikoura (my favorite town) we saw a sperm whale and a pod of a few hundred dusky dolphins. Other notable experiences were stargazing at the Mt John observatory in Tekapo, the Hooker Valley hike near Mt Cook, the Greycliffs, Fergburgers in Queenstown, beach sunset at Punakaiki, and sunrise at the Barn in Marahau. Again, we really appreciate you efforts to make our trip so enjoyable.

Every detail was just right. Once Upon A Trip made our New Zealand experience an absolute delight. All of the places we over-nighted, the camper we rented and the excursions they booked all came off without a hitch. It saved us so much effort. Their knowledge and expertise made all the difference! The day to day itinerary was comfortable and included highlights as well as hidden places. Thank you, Carolyn, for making it truly a trip of lifetime memories!

Once Upon a Trip have been an amazing company to deal with. We are particularly thankful for the clear, friendly and prompt communication from Romain who dealt with us throughout the process of organising our trip and kept in touch with us during and after the trip to ensure all of our needs were met Nothing was too difficult and Romain went out of his way to make sure we had an amazing experience.

In Feb to March this year, we had a wonderful month touring in NZ and all with the help of Romain at OUAT. It did all feel a bit like a leap of faith, but OUAT helped us plan a fantastic trip and I would not hesitate to recommend them. We considered trying to organise the entire trip ourselves assuming this would be cheaper but in fact the events and accommodation cost the same either way and having OUAT organise it gives (in my view) better accommodation, less hassle and all costs covered by a single payment. The very great benefit of using OUAT was their first-hand knowledge of the B&Bs and activities companies – everywhere we stayed was unique and interesting.

Once Upon A Trip in New Zealand were fantastic from beginning to end. I highly recommend this company. Romain was incredibly helpful in the months leading up to the trip, being punctual with bookings and with answering all questions. The entire trip went smoothly, and there wasn't a bump anywhere along the way. Thank you, Romain and OUAT, for an amazing time in New Zealand! I'll definitely book through you guys again someday!

The organisation by OUAT was excellent, communication was brilliant, facilities on the Milford Track were of a high standard and Hippo Lodge in Queenstown was very good value. We all really enjoyed the experience of Milford Track and would highly recommend OUAT to anyone.

OUAT organised a great trip on the Hollyford Track. The lodges were wonderful with the most decisions food. The guides really knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you too Romain for always being there to answer all my questions. Great trip would recommend it to anyone. The chalet B and B in Queenstown was a perfect end to the trip with again very friendly and helpful owners.

Although my brother and I know we wanted to Journey across NZ, we didn't know exactly where to start. We had 5 weeks and we wanted to see as much as possible without rushing through the beautiful country. We wanted a unique experience and OUAT worked with us to create our perfect adventure. Romain's advice and recommendations were spot on. Not only that, but as our trip hit a few mishaps as journeys do, Romain was there to save the day. Rebooking was necessary because of weather and we wanted to extend our stay in several locations, all of this went seamlessly with OUAT and Romain. A glorious journey it was.

Carolyn, We would like thank you for all the arrangement for a trip in NZ. We had a busy, fun and wonderful time there. Besides all activities arranged in the trip, we managed to kitesurf in Auckland and Rotorua, we hiked up to the top of waterfall Wairere on the way to Paeroa, mountain biked the whole day in Whakarewarewa Forest - Rotorua and went bungy jumping in Taupo. We hope to come back visiting bottom half of north island and the south island soon. Thanks again!!
